2018 Celebrating the Mimbres pattern

Welcome to classic traditional designs of the Mimbres people.  This pattern was inspired by preprinted Mimbres block designs I purchased about 20 years ago.  In 2017, I finally put them together in a quilt that won first place at the New Mexico State Fair in the professional category.

In preparation for designing this wall hanging pattern, I studied the ancient Mimbres designs on line and in museums in New Mexico, simplifying these nine silhouettes for my pattern.  Using machine applique and paper-backed fusible web, the black silhouettes are fused to off-white blocks.  The splashes of color are my addition, as the Mimbres used very little color in their pottery.  The purist can forgo the colored fabric and use only black and white if desired.  Either way, enjoy!
